FAQ

In-Person & Online Consultation

Both a Personal Consultation and an Online Consultation are free of charge and without obligation. It is a time to ask your questions and explore the possibilities. Only when you are sure of your choice will we discuss the next steps.

We start with the person you want to remember. You tell me what you have in mind, and I listen to what matters to you: a color that was associated with them, a piece of jewelry you can wear every day, or perhaps something for special occasions. Then we look together at which designs, colors, and styles would be a good fit, or which ones you had already in mind when booking the consultation.

Because I make all the jewelry to order, I do not have samples of everything on hand. Therefore, it may be helpful to indicate when booking a consultation whether you are interested in a particular model or type of memorial jewelry. This way, I can prepare in time for our meeting and show you one thing or another. In terms of colors, all color options from the color chart are available, and we will discuss the customization options together if desired.

During a personal consultation, you can view examples, try them on, and see the glass colours in daylight. Online, I can show them to you via the camera. Glass and gold never look exactly the same on a screen as they do in real life. If you are unsure about a colour, a personal consultation is the best choice.

Because I make all the jewellery to order, I do not have samples available everywhere. Therefore, it may be helpful to indicate when booking a consultation whether you are interested in a particular model or type of memorial jewellery. This way, I can prepare in time for our meeting and show you one thing or another.

A personal consultation takes place at my home in The Hague, where my private studio is also located. This allows you to hold the jewelry and compare the colors with your own eyes. An online consultation via Google Meet is just as personal and is more suitable if you have a few brief practical questions, live further away, or prefer to talk from your own home.

Nothing is mandatory. Some people bring a photo or an item that belonged to their loved one. During an in-person consultation, you can also give me the ashes, hair, or fur directly, so you don't have to send them.

Only a small amount is needed for a piece of jewellery. I carefully store what you entrust to me and work it myself, with care and respect. Anything I do not use will be returned to you. During the consultation, I will explain exactly how this works, so you know where your loved one is.

You are welcome to bring your partner, a family member, or a friend. And emotions are allowed. It is about someone you love, so tears are part of it. Please take all the time you need. When booking a Personal Consultation, you can indicate how many people will accompany you so that I can take this into account.

Have you chosen a beautiful piece of jewelry for you and your loved one? Then you can entrust the material to me and I will keep it carefully in my studio until I start working on your jewelry.

I always send an email with a recap of what we discussed so that you can always read it over again at your own pace. This also contains all the instructions regarding the next steps.

Shipping & Delivery

Please note that making your jewelry takes approximately 4 to 6 weeks after I have received the materials from you. Any unused ashes, hair, photos, letters, or stories you have sent with me will always be safely returned to you along with the jewelry.

All packages are shipped with a track & trace code, which you will receive as soon as the package has been shipped.

Because this is a very personal and emotional product, I always ship all orders by registered mail. I work with PostNL for both domestic (Netherlands) and international shipments.

Around the holidays, delivery times may be slightly longer due to high volume. Please take this into account when placing your order.

Any import duties, customs fees, or sales taxes may be added according to the rules of the destination country.

Orders within the Netherlands and Belgium are shipped free of charge. For other international orders a shipping fee of €35 applies.

Please note that orders shipped outside the EU (such as to the US, the United Kingdom, Canada, or Australia) may be subject to import duties or local taxes upon arrival.

These costs are determined by local customs and are the responsibility of the recipient.

Because each country has its own rules and regulations regarding the shipping of ashes or other memorial items, I kindly ask you to arrange this yourself.

Please don't worry if this feels a bit overwhelming. If you need help, explanation, or a little extra reassurance, I will lovingly guide you through the process step by step 🤍

If you receive your package and discover that the jewelry is damaged despite special care taken during shipping, please email me with all the details within 48 hours so that I can assist you.

Because my work is personal and sentimental, I want the jewelry to feel perfect for you. If it doesn’t feel perfect, please let me know as soon as possible so that I can resolve the issue.

Unfortunately, returns cannot be accepted because the jewelry is made from personal materials.

All solid gold jewelry is custom-made and therefore cannot be exchanged or returned. All sales of solid gold and custom-made jewelry are final.

Please let me know as soon as possible if your jewelry does not fit properly once you have received it, and we will find a solution together.

Please note that additional costs will be charged depending on the type of repair and the material of the jewelry. I will always discuss these with you in advance.

In any case, I always recommend having a jeweler measure your ring size accurately; this is the best way to ensure the correct fit. If you still have doubts about your size after placing your order, please let me know within 24 hours.

Please don't worry about how much time has passed. I completely understand that this can be an emotional and sometimes difficult process, and everyone goes through it at their own pace. That is precisely why I do not apply any "expiration date" to purchases. You are more than welcome to take as much time as you need.

Product

Please handle the jewelry with care; it is handcrafted from glass and fine, delicate chains. I recommend not wearing the jewelry while sleeping, showering, or exercising. After wearing it, gently wipe your jewelry with a soft cloth and store it in a fabric-lined jewelry box, away from direct sunlight, to preserve the condition of the metal and other materials.

For jewelry containing epoxy, avoid contact with nail polish remover, alcohol, and similar substances. Also try to avoid prolonged contact with water (salt or fresh), perspiration, heat, and chemicals such as chlorine, sulfur, perfume, cleaning products, and lotion.

If you don't have any ashes from your loved one but would still like me to make a piece of jewelry for you, I can also incorporate fabric, hair/fur, teeth, or sand into any piece of jewelry. This way, you can keep your memories close to you in a beautiful and tangible way.

It is an honor for me to be able to contribute in this way to cherishing the memory of all your beloved pets.

When ash or hair fuses with glass, a subtle reaction occurs under the influence of heat.

The material as if comes to life, forming tiny bubbles that nestle in the glass like soft traces. An incredibly unique process, as distinctive as a fingerprint. This is also known as 'The Last Breath'.

Carbon Energy refers to the role of carbon in this process.
A quiet reminder of how something can change, but never completely disappear. 🤍

When creating a memorial piece in which ash or hair is incorporated, glass is heated to a liquid, almost breathing state. At that moment, the material can react to the temperature.

After cremation, ash consists mainly of mineral remains, such as calcium phosphates. But bone is never purely mineral in living tissue; it has always been interwoven with organic structures. That connection does not completely disappear. When ash comes into contact with the intense heat of molten glass, these remaining organic compounds can react and thus, together with the unique properties of each material, contribute to the patterns that remain visible in the glass.

Hair works differently. Hair consists largely of keratin, a protein rich in carbon. When this comes into contact with the liquid, glowing mass of molten glass, a reaction takes place. Small amounts of gas, carbon dioxide, and water vapor are created, which cannot always escape before the glass cools and hardens.

What remains are fine air inclusions. Soft, organic patterns. Structures that can never be exactly repeated.

The colors may vary slightly depending on the ash, the temperature, and the energy of the day. Each bead is unique and shows variations, as they are made by hand one by one. But generally, the colors are as shown in the photo. The final pattern of the air bubbles 'The Last Breath' is largely determined by the magic of the creation process.

I handle the material you entrust to me with the utmost care; I work in a clean environment and use labels at every step to properly track your order and ensure that it never gets mixed up with someone else's.

Due to the way my jewelry is made, the ashes or hair are safely and completely enclosed in the final piece of jewelry, with no chance of anything falling out or coming loose. In the photos on my webshop, you can clearly see how beautifully the ashes are incorporated into the jewelry.

All glass memory beads are annealed in a kiln, where they cool slowly over several hours to relieve any tension in the glass. After that, they are quite sturdy and won't easily break if dropped. However, I would ask you to continue to handle your necklace with care, as the silver or gold chains are delicate and fragile, and the jewelry is handmade. I also advise against sleeping with it. If you take care of it, it will last a lifetime.

I work with 14k Gold-Filled or solid 14-karat gold, depending on the piece of jewelry.

14k Gold Filled is a high-quality material where a thick layer of 14-karat gold (at least 5% of the total weight) is mechanically bonded to a brass core.

Advantages:

  • Much more durable and thicker than gold plating; does not oxidize and does not wear off quickly.
  • Looks like real gold and retains its color and shine for a long time.
  • More affordable than solid gold.

Disadvantages:

  • Not completely solid gold; over the long term, the gold layer may wear down slightly with intensive wear.
  • May be less valuable in the long term than real gold.

14-karat gold contains a high percentage of pure gold (58.5%) and does not wear out.

Advantages:

  • Solid material, so very durable and wear-resistant.
  • Retains its value well, even in the long term.
  • Can last for generations with proper care.

Disadvantages:

  • Significantly more expensive than Gold Filled.

Certainly, the ashes and the hair/fur can be mixed, or I can keep them separate in your memorial jewelry.

For each memorial piece, I need about half a teaspoon of ashes, or a small lock of hair, roughly the amount you can hold between your thumb and forefinger.
